Kicking off August 16
Harnett County will update its Comprehensive Land Use Plan to outline the vision and guide its future. The Comprehensive Land Use project will kick off this Wednesday, August 16.
The Comprehensive Land Use Plan will guide the community’s vision, land use policy, funding, resource decisions, and infrastructure. The plan will define a land use and development framework for various areas in Harnett County.
With substantial growth in Harnett County, the plan will help to address the county’s change and needs.
The project will allow Harnett County to focus on land use, affordable and workforce housing, parks and recreation, economic development, transportation, natural resources, public infrastructure, and the Harnett Regional Jetport.
The plan will also feature two small area plans which will focus on the NC Highway 87 Corridor and the Northwest Harnett-Duncan area.
“Updating the comprehensive land use plan will allow the County to define the County’s biggest assets and challenges as it continues to grow, make recommendations about the type and character of development appropriate throughout the County, and provide a better-quality community for the residents.” – Harnett County Development Services
The previous comprehensive plan, Grow Harnett County, was adopted in 2015 and focused on economic development, land use, natural resources, utilities, and transportation.
Harnett County Development Services is asking citizens to get involved throughout this project for the next several months by providing input through surveys and public meetings. More information will be provided soon on those opportunities.
Harnett County hired consulting firm, Stewart, Inc., to assist with this project.
